Through the initiative and persistence of Ron Szweda, a community minded CPA, the St. Louis Tax Assistance Program began modestly in 1998 with 40 volunteers who served 184 families at a single site and generated $176,000 in tax refunds. Until his 2014 death, Ron oversaw the programs steady growth. In the 20 years since its inception, the St. Louis Tax Assistance Program has served more than 32,500 families and prepared returns resulting in tax refunds of more than $45 million.
In 2017 TAP assisted over 2,600 families at seven tax return preparation sites and provided them with tax refunds exceeding $3.2 million. Click here to see year-by-year results
The growth of the program is due to a unique combination of volunteerism, entrepreneurship, community development, government and corporate support, and foundation support.
Again in 2018, TAP is operating eight community sites located in the City of St. Louis, St. Louis County, and St. Charles County.
Our volunteers now number more than 250. We can always use more to help us expand the reach of our services.
